Today we are inviting a panel of Southern Utah University students to discuss their objections to the invitation to have Mormon apostle Jeffrey R. Holland speak at an upcoming graduation ceremony, especially as a man who has used his status, privilege, wealth and power to platform anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, including violent metaphors, which have directly harmed so many in that community.

    Hi,
I have a question that in a small way is connected to this podcast. I heard Carol Lynn Pearson reference podcasts discussing the shock treatment BYU inflicted on gay students. Anyone know where those might be found ?

Mindy Benson will always kiss the ring of the LDS empire.

When I was a student at SUU, she worked in student affairs. SHE made the decision to only play non-rated-R movies in the campus theatre. Including rated R movies that had been edited to no longer be rated R.

Guess what? She did a listening session. Students and faculty showed up in protest… overwhelmingly, the the room was full of students/faculty that were I n opposition!

Guess what? She still treated our campus theatre like it was BYU. Only edited and non rated R movies were shown.

The best protest was that students didn’t support the theatre and they ended up playing NO movies!

She is not your true ally. She’ll pretend, but she
Only cares about what the Church thinks!

Can you attend the graduation and just get up and leave the room while Mr Holland talks? I think it could be beautiful to see 6-7K people get up and walk out.
