More “Lying for the Lord”?
A number of years ago, I listened to a Malcolm Gladwell Revisionist History podcast titled ‘Free Brian Williams’. Its central narrative is that Brian Williams stretched the truth about being on a helicopter involved in a major war action somewhere in the Middle East. There is conclusive evidence that he was not on that helicopter– he probably reported about it. Gladwell posits that it was a pretty normal cognitive issue that led to Williams error in retelling that story more than an attempt at self-promotion. In my more charitable moments, I believe that church leaders sometimes make honest mistakes aggrandizing their experiences to bolster create a spiritual experience for their audiences. Doesn’t excuse it, doesn’t make it any more true, but I pull up short of calling them liars because I’m sure this happens frequently. I’d love to know the breakout of honest vs. intentional mistakes.
I always wondered why Paul Dunn got demoted for making up stories, while other church leaders have done the same thing without consequence. Was something else going on with Dunn?
Please stop using “epic,” “dispassionate,” and “objective” when describing your podcast. After listening to this sideshow on Russell Nelson, I can say that no one was neutral, dispassionate, nor objective. The panel’s disdain for Nelson and Mormonism was painful and so unprofessional.
Commie Mormons going to be commie Mormons, and they will be critical of anything that promotes their literal death cult beliefs, but will not ask one critical question of the insane dogma and actions of the left! These people are not for truth!!!
