Unfortunately, the audio/screencast of my Sunstone presentation last week failed, so it’s gonna take me a few weeks to recreate that.
In the mean time, here is a link to my PowerPoint presentation on “The Peril and the Promise of the Internet Within Mormonism.” Hopefully at least some of it will be valuable to you (sans the audio).
John,
Sorry to read about your technical difficulties at the Sunstone Symposium. I read through your PowerPoint presentation and found it interesting (Salt Lake City, UT leads the USA in Google-pornography searches ?!?!)
I look forward to being able to ‘listen’ to your recreated audio/screencast Symposium presentation.
Anne, a few people at the presentation said that people who are looking for pornography don’t search for the word “pornography”. So it might be that some people who did that search were doing research into pornography use. I think that Utah’s a bit more sheltered, and that perhaps folks there would use the word pornography when they wanted to look for porn. If you go to google trends and type in other porn-related words, like “naked ladies”, you’ll also find that Utah is generally pretty high. I didn’t figure this out myself. I read it somewhere awhile back on a blog, but can’t remember where.
Great presentation, John! I learned a lot!
