Lessons from Digg for Sustain’d/the Bloggernacle

As some of you know, a new project called Sustain’d has been lauched to try to provide a more community-driven alternative to the current lds blog aggregators (ldsblogs.org and ldselect.org). Sustain’d is being modeled after https://www.digg.com.

Anyway, Digg has received its own fair share of bad press over the past few days, over just how democratic (or undemocratic) it really is. So I offer these 2 articles as research for Sustain’d, and all of those who want to see a Digg-like (or more community-driven) option thrive.

It will be interesting to see how moderation is implemented on Sustain’d. I have spoken with Connor, and he seems to carry a good perspective about the whole thing. He’s gonna reject porn and blatantly mean-spirited anti-Mormon stuff, but he’s hoping to be more open to criticism and/or controversy than ldsblogs.org has been to date (i.e. he says he wouldn’t de-list Mormon Stories, for example, based on its past behavior. For those keeping tabs, ldsblogs.org has yet to re-add Mormon Stories to its site).

Anyway, it will be ineresting and fun to see where it all goes, but I’m looking forward to the journey.
