Several months back, a listener named Lucas Dimick shared with me a short video he made. In his own words:

“i am a practicing mormon and occasional visitor to ‘mormon stories’. i am a graduate student in the film, video, new media department at the
art institute of chicago. last semester i made a 7 minute animation that sort of has a mormon / mormon-esqe theme to it.”

Please check it out, and let us/Lucas know what you think.

I am not good at finding the deeper meaning in stuff like this, but I had a good time watching it!

The narration and animation was very good. I’m not sure what it means either, but it evokes a thoughtful mood about dreams and history. Very good indeed.

Me neither but I’m curious so, Lucas, help us out. The grim looking figure is the media and all that is useless and vain in the world. The fish represent sleep. The stone and hat represent your conscience. The stars that show up in the hat are the self-destructing, self-imbued, prostitutes who are keeping you from going to Church with your family. The sacred tree is church. You take the sword of the Spirit to run the media through as called upon by your conscience (or the stars, who just wish someone could shut them up and make their pain go away), but when you kill the media you cry because you are now alone, either because the sacred tree was an illusion or because you are unprepared to enjoy church, depending on your or your audience’s point of view. Am I completely off my rocker? I probably completely missed the point but I enjoyed it none the less. Nice job.

It reminds me of when I go to the video store. This is the kind of movie I come out with. My wife always shakes her head at the end.

Wonderful, Meaningful. I would like to see more of his work.
