On November 3rd U.S. citizens will vote in what many believe will be a defining election for the United States of America.
Today, in a two-part series on Mormon Stories Podcast, we seek to understand why some Mormons and Post-Mormons are choosing to vote for either of the main presidential candidates: Donald Trump or Joe Biden.

Why I am for Joe Biden…he will do the following.
*Pack the Supreme Court, giving control to the radical left to legislate their unconstitutional agenda from the bench.
*Forcing a $15 Minimum Wage. Congressional economists analyzed possible outcomes. A $15-minimum-wage, CBO analysis finds it could cost 1.3 million jobs.
*Eliminate the Electoral College-Nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people take away the rights of the other 49%.
*Universal healthcare and Medicaid for all Americans AND illegal aliens. Government control of Healthcare will destroy it.
*Immediate citizenship for illegals, destroy rule of law.
*Free college for all, requires massive tax increases.
*Forgiveness of student loans, cost taxpayers over $1.5 trillion.
*Eliminate border walls and Immigration Enforcement, cause America to be overrun by human trafficking, drugs, criminals, foreign invasion destroying America’s sovereignty
*Make Washington D.C. and Porta Rico the 51st and 52 nd States, giving more power to bigger totalitarian government.
*Abortion for “all women AND girls.” INFANTICIDE
*$70 trillion Green New Deal, where the USA would be “net-zero greenhouse gas by 2050.” But CLOSE all coal & natural gas power plants by 2035. By 2030 all new construction in the USA must be net-zero greenhouses. MASSIVE TAX INCREASE, DESTROY ENERGY INDUSTRY, DESTROY STANDARD OF LIVING
*Create a U.S. Agency for Global Media “to ensure that only accurate information is reported in the news or on the internet.” DESTROY FIRST AMENDMENT, GOVERNMENT CONTROL FREEDOM OF SPEECH
*Rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, FOREIGN CONTROL OF AMERICA’S ENERGY INDUSTRY
*Create a new federal agency of 100,000 people to trace every American. BIG GOVERNMENT WATCHING AND CONTROLING EVERYONE
*Immediately restore voting rights for convicted felons.
*Provide funding to facilitate vote-from-home and mail-in-voting. MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD
*Create a new Federal Credit Bureau (to replace Equafax, et al), and require banks to use this new credit reporting service that will be set up to assist low-income people in buying houses and cars. THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE 2009 FINANCIAL CRISIS
*Make gun manufacturers responsible and liable for how their guns are used. (Destroy gun manufacturing and second amendment)
*Declare and treat drug use as a Mental Illness instead of an illegal activity.
Gosh Dave that’s a very scary list you’ve compiled there. Was Henny Penny a coauthor or just a contributor?
I think it is slightly disingenuous to make a large show of feeling that having a woman as president is paramount, while not even giving space to talk about the only woman candidate. A candidate who was on every ballot. The only candidate with no sexual misconduct accusations. The only candidate with a large scale plan to end the war on drugs. The only candidate with a commitment and plan to disengage from foreign wars.
If we truly believe in having a woman president. In a cessation of war mongering, and getting the government out of our personal lives and private behaviors. Perhaps it is worth discussing the idea of casting your vote for someone, instead of simply voting against the person you perceive as the least reprehensible of the two major options.
Well Dave, I guess we voted for Biden for the same reasons. Your list is just a good start at pointing out all the corruption I believe in. Engage with any TBM republican and they will do their best to help you understand the errors in your thinking and convert you to get in bed with Trump.
I’m Catholic, not Mormon. But I cannot imagine how any devout Catholic (or TBM Mormon) could ever vote from Trump. He is the antithesis of a moral, Christian man.

Both had plenty of women for consort. BY had 55 wives. Trump had far more (as consorts) but only 3 wives so far.
Both have universities named for them.
Speaking of the decision to abort, I realize there isn’t a close parallel for men. However, in 2020, we shouldn’t be acting like men’s lives are unaffected by the births of their children. We shouldn’t be acting like men can’t be equal partners as nurturers and caregivers. Ranting about how lopsided the impacts of childbirth are on the lives of female and male parents is ironic…….this is an antiquated view of male and female roles in child-rearing coupled with a progressive view of women’s autonomy over their bodies. Somebody wants to have their cake and eat it too. I’d never diminish the sacrifice and pain that a woman endures to bring a child into the world, but beyond that are at least 18 years of parental partnership, which can very well rest primarily on the father’s shoulders in some instances.
Also, why do I never hear an acknowledgment of the babies’ rights from pro-choice advocates? This should be an important consideration.
John, I appreciate that you attempted to hold their feet to the fire on the “What about the rights of babies?” question…..and I realize that you couldn’t dwell on any particular issue for too long. But that segment reminded me of the presidential debate…..a direct question was asked and the respondents deflected, pointed out flaws of the conservative side, etc. They didn’t answer the question. And they especially didn’t answer in terms of “What about the rights of actual babies in the wombs of actual mothers who are contemplating actual abortion?”. They responded to the broader, more abstract question of “Why should we reduce the instances of disabled babies being born into our society?” I could be wrong, but I think you were asking the former question, not the latter.
