14TH Annual Rocky Mountain Retreat
June 1-3, 2007
Snow Mountain Ranch, Winter Park, Colorado

Yes, the moment you’ve been waiting for all winter – time to plan your annual, trek to the Mormon Women’s Rocky Mountain Retreat. We have some great things planned – all we need is you. Come enjoy:

  • fMhLisa, Boise Sunday School teacher by day, feminist blogger by night (and any other time she gets the chance). Check out her blog at https://feministmormonhousewives.org/. The New York Times says, “Unlike the more mainstream Mormon blogs — known collectively as the Bloggernacle — that by and large promote the faith, this online diary focuses on the universal challenges of mothering young children and on frustration with the limited roles women have in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
  • A panel discussion about partners who are “unevenly yoked.” Is your spouse more or less “actively engaged” than you are? Hear from others with similar experiences and share your own.
  • Music and singing (bring your voices and instruments if you have them)
  • Famous Friday Potluck and Saturday Supper
  • Sunday Quaker meeting
  • Hikes, walks, talks, games, swimming, hot springs, naps, lounging
  • Seeing old friends and making new ones

MONEY Retreat fees are $125.17. This includes supper on Saturday. YOU MUST SEND either a deposit of $62.50 or the full amount by March 23 to be guaranteed a space. Cabins must be reserved and we depend on our March count. The second-half balance is due April 23.

Checks and registration forms (below) should be mailed to:

I might add that this is for women only. :)

Also, we make our count of how many cabins to keep by the March count. So it might be possible to sign up after that date, since there’s usually a little space left over in one cabin, but it really helps us to know now. These are very modern cabins, with flush toilets, running water, microwaves, etc, in a gorgeous location. There’ll be two sessions with fMh Lisa, and then the panel. One other speaker probably, but she’s still working out the details of whether a family conflict is going to make her cancel.

Click on cabins and take a look at the cabin directory (except this morning it won’t load for me.) We’re in the family reunion 8 bedroom cabins.

This may be obvious to some, but if it is a Mormon retreat, why is there Quaker services on Sunday?

  4. Paula March 8, 2007 at 1:54 pm

That’s actually a good question– It’s not services, just the meeting style. We have a meeting for about an hour, or so, in quaker style, well, at least our understanding of quaker style. We just sit until someone feels she wants to stand and talk about whatever’s on her mind. It’s been a tradition at the Exponent II retreat for many years too.

Also I should add the two of the participants in the panel are Bored in Vernal, and Melody Manwaring.

And, I’ll quit replying to myself now– here’s a bit more detail about the retreat:

OK, one more comment. fMhLisa pointed out to me today that the flier used the old URL which was quoted in the New York Times for her blog. The correct URL is https://feministmormonhousewives.org/

    Fixed.

I just wanted to mention that the deadline is coming soon for registration, March 23, so if anyone’s interested, send it in. I don’t know how many registrations we have right now, but any that get in by March 23 should have a spot. Any after that will just depend on whether there is space in the cabins.

Also, just found out last night– Suzette Smith will be another speaker, and is speaking on “Being Single in a Married Church”.
