Mormon Stories Podcast Listeners – We are super excited to announce that we have created a Patreon account.

https://www.patreon.com/mormonstories

This is an option we are providing IN ADDITION to the monthly donation option we provide through Paypal/Donorbox. The reasoning:

1) As some of you may know, less than 1% of Mormon Stories Podcast listeners are donors. Patreon is awesome because it makes it easy for listeners who are currently not donors to support MSP at a lower amount ($1/interview), and the payout happens each time the episode is released. As an extra incentive, we will be releasing new Mormon Stories Podcast episodes (e.g., Mike Norton, Michael Quinn) two days early for Patreon subscribers. So if you want early access to these episodes, and if you want to begin supporting Mormon Stories podcast, please sign up as a Patreon subscriber today!

2) To be clear, Paypal/Donorbox (the way people donate today) are the primary funding channels that allow the Open Stories Foundation and Mormon Stories Podcast to continue existing. We would literally cease to exist without these donations…so please keep these donations coming. We are aware that those of you who donate this way will also want early access to the podcasts, and we certainly don’t want to penalize any of you for your support – so we are open to ideas on how to make this all possible.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please send them to: staff@openstoriesfoundation.org and we will respond.

Thanks!

I think everyone should donate. I am shocked to hear that only 1% of listeners contribute. We learn so much, and it gives us so much pleasure. I know I keep going back to older interviews to check what was known, what was said, and how things have changed, even though I only discovered MSP about 18 months ago.

I am one of those pensioner people and live on another continent with limited resources and no credit card. I don’t know how to overcome this, but I’m telling you, I am going to find a friend in the States who will do a deal with me – perhaps I can help someone they know where I live – and they can send you a donation? (I know a family in Utah who are still TBM, but I have a relative in Texas who listens to MS). (I’m waffling I know!) But God-darn, you should be getting more than 1%!

Any suggestions out there? MS is an important resource for truth-seekers everywhere. Let’s roll up our sleeves pilgrims!

I just signed up for a monthly donation. Is there a way I can have this count as my patreon subscription? AS it stands, I donated on this website but patreon doesn’t recognize it.

Hi Randall, unfortunately there is not an option within Patreon that allows us to manually add patrons. There are rumors that Patreon is beta-testing this type of capability, but currently we are not able to do so

I’m back on the paying rolls. It’s the least I can do since I’m saving ALL that money on tithes and offerings!

Can you send out the audio rss link to all of your subscribers? I’m not a computer dude but I do subscribe to seven Patreon shows. Getting the private feed is just a matter of pasting that link into your podcast program.

      Yes we can!

On behalf of the 99%, I wish to thank everyone who is willing and able to donate to keep this wonderful podcast up and running. However, I feel the need to point out that not everyone is able. There are those of us who have no income of our own, but who still have TBM family members who insist on paying a “full tithe” to the LDS church whether they can afford it or not. They are sometimes called “free riders” — but could also be considered “dogs who eat the crumbs that fall from the master’s table”. I hope that it will never become necessary to restrict listening to only paying customers in order to stay in business; I would rather see ads included in the podcasts if that becomes necessary, with ad-free (or early) access granted to those who can pay, while those who can’t pay would still be able to listen. But I hope the “dogs” won’t have to be kicked out into the street to “starve”.

Just my opinion. Sorry to be the one to play “devil’s advocate”.

      EDiL13,

We have no intention of making Mormon Stories be a “subscription only” service. The mission of the OSF is to promote healing and growth for those impacted by religious transition, and our suite of podcasts is available to everyone, regardless if they are donors or not.

The creation of a Patreon is simply an attempt to reach more potential donors, get more listener feedback on our content, and make it easier for those who want to donate, to do so. We are honored to have you as a listener and it makes us very happy to hear that you get value from what we do.

Thank you so much for this response, and for what you do.

These podcasts are now my only “counterbalance” to the TBM environment I live in, ever since my relationship with the local Unitarian Universalist congregation blew up in my face earlier this year. I’d hate to have to do without.

It’s strange… I feel somewhat obligated to pay 10% of my net income to MSP. But perhaps I’ll just pay 10% on my increase instead, hahaha.

I know the feeling, but at least you’re thinking in terms of “net” income instead of “gross” income. That’s progress :)

But seriously, if you can afford it, you will help to keep this up and running for the rest of us, so thank you for whatever you can contribute.

I previously did one-off donations when I liked a certain episode a lot but started a recurring monthly donation after Oaks’ anti-LGBT talk in last conference. Mormon Stories made my transition out of the church easier and I hope it will continue to do the same for others.

I became a patreon just for the Mike Norton interview (which is amazing!)
I couldn’t wait any longer for you to post it but I will continue to support you as much as possible in the future.

Please continue stepping out of your comfort zone and interviewing controversial people. They are providing a great service to the uninformed and TBM’s alike.

Also, please do some more interviews with Mike. He has many, many more amazing stories. Thanks John!
